Flying with Air Canada from Moncton to Montreal to Zurich, then Swiss Air to Kenya, then Tanzania (Dar es Salaam).
Left Moncton at 11:40 this morning and landed in Montreal at 12:05. We met our friends Rob and Lori for lunch. Ron was dying to have Montreal pizza so off we went to Romano's. It was great to see them.
We returned to the airport around 3:30 and found Wendy and Andre checking in with Swiss Air. We joined them and we were able to get two seats in the bulkhead area so more leg room for Ron. Wendy and Andre will be two rows behind us and also sitting with extra leg room. We left Toronto about 30 minutes late as we could not land in Zurich before 6 am.
The second leg was quite nice. We were served a hot meal: Curried chicken, rice, beans, cheese, bun, and dessert, oops, and a small bottle of red wine. We watched a movie then it was shut eye for me. It was a 6h 35 minute flight. About 1 1/2 hours before landing they served a small breakfast consisting of a small croissant, yogourt, juice, and coffee or tea, or water. Local time was 6:30 upon arrival and all stores, cafes were closed. Our next flight leaves at 9:55 so we have a few hours to kill.
Our
flight from Zurich to Nairobi was a little over 8 hours. We settled into our seats and started watching movies. I watched 4 on the
way to Africa and the others 3 or 4. We also slept on and off, maybe even
during the movies… We arrived in Nairobi around 7:45 pm after being fed pretty
nice and tasty meals. We waited 1 hr as the plane was cleaned and refueled.
More passengers also joined us. Our flight to Dar es Salaam was approx. 1h40 so
we landed just before 10 pm. We then had to get our visas processed and pay $50
for them. We were out of the airport around 10:50 where our driver and hotel
worker were waiting. After a 10-15 min drive we had arrived. Off to our
bedrooms to settle in for the night. It was a little tough to sleep through the
night but all in all it wasn’t too bad.
