Sheep being herded along to go grazing
Bikers with bigger and harder calf’s than our quads.
Narrow route all the way in.
We get to our destination around 10:30. It looks like you pay to walk to the gorge. The guy at the desk asks where we are from. When we tell him Canada, he says ok, you can go. It’s free for the good guys..
River in the gorge
Tombs used to bury the dead thousands of years ago
André and Ron walking over the stream to check out a cave
Hole dug out to bury the dead. There were hundreds of them in this area
Worn out trail to get to the bottom of the gorge
Three amigos
Difficult to see but there were tombs way up in the gorge. Another world mystery as to how they could scale down or up to make the tombs and then carry the dead there.
We return from our hike ready to find a place to eat. Not much around so we end up driving another hour or more and we finally find a place around 2 pm. We leave there around 3 and make our way to Agrigento where we will spend two nights. The B&B is very nice. Unfortunately it is raining and we have to walk a ways from the parking area. We go for a walk in the rain anyways to visit a few churches, some open, some closed for the day. We go to a viewing area as we can see the sea from the top of the town. The B&B owners give us recommendations for a place to go for pre dinner drinks and for good pizza. We find the first place around 7. Three of us have a Spritz and Ron has a red wine. They offer us 3 different tapas which turn out to be very good. At 8, we walk over the restaurant for our reservation. We each order a different pizza. Ron is the only one who finishes the whole thing. The rest of us have lunch tomorrow. We return to our rooms to use the bathroom then we go out for a short walk. We share two gelatos. Ron and I have strawberry and chocolate and André and Wendy have pistachio and strawberry. They are yummy. We return to our place around 10.
I went on Google maps and I couldn't believe that you could actually bring the little yellow guy and go on the narrow road (SR11), leading to the Necropolis.
ReplyDeleteThe roads are pretty narrow and Italian drivers are crazy. They still pass on a turn with no view of what’s ahead. Unreal.
