April 27- Sorrento to Naples

We had an easy morning as we didn’t want to get to Naples too early. We could only check in at 1:00. We left the B&B around 10 and walked to the station. I should have taken a picture. I know that André would have. OMG. The people!! The platform is very narrow and passengers are boarding and disembarking at the same time. And of course everyone is pushing to get to the train first. By the time we get there, it’s already standing room only. So we drop our packs and take some space. Well, in no time at all I was shoved against the wall with no room to move. The worse part was that I was facing that wall with no chance of turning around. Ron’s height certainly helps in these situations as he is in the upper atmosphere and can still get some air. To make things worse a hormonal teenager has his arm up in my face. The smells are not too pleasant. Away we go. Of course there are many stops along the way, where there are more people waiting to hop on. I don’t know how, but they keep coming in. Unreal. Finally, the train empties half of its load at the Pompeii station. Ron hustles to find us a seat. We are seated with a young couple from California so we have a nice chat for the next 25 minutes or so. We get off at the train station and because we have been here before we have a little handle on where things are. I also booked a hotel very near the station so we are there in 10 minutes or so after picking up another city map. We walk up 4 storeys to get to the hotel lobby. Ron tried the elevator, but not sure how it worked. Anyway, we are checked in and now we will find something to eat. I so truly need veggies. We stop at a Kebab place. We are the only white tourists there. We don’t care. I have my veggies and Ron has a Pita.

Was so good to eat veggies.

There were some fries in Ron’s pita sandwich.

We decided to visit the National Archeological Museum since we skipped it last week. It has a lot of the nice pieces that we unearthed centuries after the eruption of Mt Vesuvius. It also has lots of statues dating back to centuries BC.

Hercules. These statues are humongous

Aphrodite

Hall of statues. Lots of Roma rulers: Ceasar, Augustus, Claudius, and more.

The Athletes

After a little over two hours, we are museumed out. We head out to walk the Via Toledo where most of the street is pedestrians only, until a delivery truck needs to get by.

This little girl was really taken by the musician. She was rocking in her stroller and giving great smiles to the singer. The mother was oblivious as she was on her phone the whole time.

Family playing foosball. Pizza is put on hold.

Markets are hoping.

This artist was phenomenal. Looked like he was using chalk of some kind.

View of Vesuvius and some random guy would walked into my picture. Lol.

Went out for supper after 7:00. Ron had found a great place for pizza. Since it is our last stay in Naples, we had to have pizza. Well, he had all of the directions written, but we still had to ask someone a few times. We had all but given up, when low and behold, there it was. So Wendy and André, he is now 1 for 3 in finding the place.

We each had a margherita and funghi.Thank goodness Ron can eat one and a half pizzas.

The oven and chef.

One of the many little grocery places on the way home. The butcher was drinking a beer.

Lots of goods being sold on the streets

McDonald’s has a Nutella muffin. Italians are super big on Nutella. It is everywhere.

We get back around 9:00. It’ll be an early night, as usual. Our train for Rome leaves at 9:40. Breakfast is included with our room so we just have to climb one more storey to eat and then come back and get ready to walk 5 minutes to the train station. Can’t believe that Rome is our last destination in Italy. Will enjoy these last five days.
