April 24- Pompei to Sorrento.

Awoken by a train going some time after 6 am. You get what you pay for. Our window opens up to the train tracks. Thank goodness they don’t run at night, only early morning. Breakfast is included so we have tea, fresh sweet rolls, and juice. We then get ready and walk about 25 minutes to another train station. After all that, we are not at the right one to get us to Sorrento. No big deal. The train is packed. I think that everyone who was in Naples yesterday is heading to Sorrento. It’s crazy here. The young woman at the info center in Sorrento told us that these days are some of the busiest as it was just Easter and tomorrow is a national holiday. Add to that school holidays in the UK, the Netherlands, etc. We were told that we would hear more English speaking here than anywhere else in Italy and I believe it.

On the cliffs near the water

Coastal view from above

Lots of shops along narrow pedestrian only streets.

Lots of stairs to get from downtown to the port area

Peppers hanging outside a store

View of the port area. Beautiful day. Pelops et swimming.

Lots of lemon trees, so lots of lemon products

Took the road back up instead of stairs. Not so hard on the knees.

Restaurants in the main plaza

Another view of the Marina  and restaurants and sun seekers

Just resting  down by the port.

Lots of sunbathers

Saw two brides today

Fishermen getting their nets ready with bait

A small balcony where I sat to write the blog before going out again tonight.

Vallone die mulini, an old mill. Set very deep in a gorge

A shoe maker working outside his shop

Where we will have breakfast in the morning.

Oranges trees are everywhere, on side streets, in people’s yards, and no one is picking them

Two different kinds of lemons. I guess the large one is quite a bit sweeter.

Saw this dog walking with his master and helping to carry the groceries. Ron couldn’t resist taking the picture.

We ate supper at an outdoor, popular restaurant. As we were finishing, an interesting couple from the UK sat beside. We struck up a very fun conversation. I love that part of travelling.
Back at our place where I think we are the only ones in a three bedroom B&B. It’s quite nice and newly renovated. Very modern.

  1. Looks like a great day, nice to see some sun, we certainly don't have any at home right now. Have fun tomorrow!

  2. You seem to be seeing lots of interesting stuff. The weather seems a lot better than here where we have hardly seen the sun since we are back.
