April 16- Marsala

Second day in Marsala. We had planned to go to a little island called Mozia, but only if the winds were calmer than yesterday. Luckily it was sunny and windless. We headed out to find breakfast-a chocolate croissant then loaded the car and headed to the port to catch a ferry to our destination. Mozia or Mothia is an archeological site. The Carthaginians were there in the 5th or 6th century BC. There is much Phoenician culture to be found there.
In the end we decide to take a private ferry with audio descriptions around the island.

This is the map of the tiny island. We started at the bottom right and went the the left and around.

This was an ancient road where they transported goods to and from the island. It is now completely under water. But the water is very shallow. We were on a pontoon boat.

Some of the ruins

More ruins this of the cemetery.

Museum. We decided not to tour on land as we had to pay 9 more Euros each and the only site that we did not get to see was the inside of the museum.

Our boat captain had a bottle of Marsala port and gave of each a drink. Yum.

Ron, André, and Wendy  then went to visit a salt museum. They have been excavating salt in the area for centuries.

We then decided to drive along the coast to see what else we could find.

Beautiful scenes along to coast

Lots of flowers as spring is definitely here

Old church is a beach area.

Many, many stray dogs and cats around Sicily. We did not see this on the mainland.

Lots and lots of vineyards- this is where Marsala wine comes from after all.

We return to park the car in behind our apartment and head into Marsala to find a place to grab a bite to eat and maybe a drink.

The boys are having a birra  grande, Wendy was eager to have a Spritz, and I am having my first glass of white wine since arriving in Italy.

Nice to sit in an outdoor patio and not be cold.

Second Arancine. This time filled with rice and a ragu sauce. Wendy and I have a salad. Ron chose a salami sandwich, and André had a plate of potatoes and squid.
We return to the apt where Ron and I veg for a bit and Wendy and André decide to go out again to check out some tapestry and do some wine tasting in order to buy a bottle to take home.
Ron has made a decision on where to have supper. It is nearly 8 pm when we leave to find it. By 9:oo.  we still hadn’t found the place. So then we were looking for a place to find a quick bite as it is getting late. We find a place where we have bruschetta to start and each a spaghetti pasta. We share a litre of wine as well. On the way home, there’s a gelato open so in we go. It is nearing 10 pm. I would never eat this late at home, but when on holidays anything goes.
