April 26- Sorrento

We had booked a boat tour for today. I really didn’t think that I should go as I was still woozy and tired, but I also felt bad for Ron on his own, so I went. Our boat was for 12 people only, so that was good. We were going to visit Amalfi and Positano, two of the villages hanging off cliffs in the Amalfi coast. We get picked up at 9 and are down by the port 10 minutes later. We learn that are only 3 other passengers today. That’s perfect as it gives us more opportunities to move around. It is a father and daughter and the father’s girlfriend. The daughter and girlfriend speak English as does the captain. Today is windy and cooler that yesterday. Good for me as I will be avoiding the sun. We head out and it is choppy. We all get splashed, some worse than others. It’s foggy on the mountain tops but the sun is trying to peak through.

All kinds of these watch towers along the coast

Think that this is Sorrento

Houses built so high on the tops or in the mountains.

Our first stop is Amalfi as it is about one and a half hours to get there. It won’t be so long getting from the second village. It’s crazy there with tons of tourists. They have huge ferries transporting
.thousands of people every minute. The narrow streets are lines up with shops and restaurants and
some people are sunbathing. It is warmer now that we are on land.we have two hours to explore but I really don’t have much energy to walk in those crowds. The captain of the boat suggested that we visit a paper museum- Museo de la Carta. It dates back to the 14th century with machinery upgraded along the way. It was pretty cool.

Young boy making paper. The guide was showing him how to do it.

Church that we were going to visit but I couldn’t stand in line that long.

Busy streets

With our two hours up, we returned to get picked up. Sandwiches and drinks were served. I had a few bites as I thought it would help settle my belly. Ron was the recipient of 3/4 of another sandwich.
Off to Positano. This village is even smaller that Amalfi, but possible with more tourists. There were a lot of American teenagers sunbathing and walking around.

So many boats trying to dock in Positano. We had to wait 15 minutes or so for space for our boat to be able to get a clearing.

Young girl that we befriended , or she befriended us. She was excited to be able to practice her English.

Arriving back around 5 pm. I was done.

Because we got splashed with sea water and I’m a bit cool, we will take our showers and go find a place to have supper. I think that I’m ready to eat now.
We find a good reasonably priced restaurant. There are mostly tourists in every place. I order a pizza which turns out is a big mistake because I can only eat half. We also ordered calamari to start. Luckily I only had a few of them. Ron has a cannelloni. Again, not too sure that it was actually cannelloni. We walk the streets for a while then I’ve had enough, time for bed. We check for hot water, not yet. Better be some in the morning. Good night.
